Living in the city- Urban challenges to Food and Nutrition Security in kamrangirchar slum, Dhaka-An Anthropological study.

As per Millennium Development Goals (MDG) Bangladesh by the year 2015 has to 1) eradicate hunger, chronic food insecurity, and extreme destitution; 2) reduce poverty by 50%; 3) attain universal primary education for all of primary school age children; 4) eliminate gender disparity in primary and secondary school education; 5) reduce infant and under five mortality rates by 65% and eliminate gender disparity in child mortality; 6) reduce the proportion of malnourished under five children by 50% and eliminate gender disparity in child malnutrition; 7) reduce maternal mortality rate by 50%; 8) ensure access to reproductive health services to all; 9) reduce substantially, if not totally, social violence against women and children and finally 10) ensure disaster management and prevent environmental degradation for overcoming the persistence of deprivation. MDG recognizes the close link between income poverty and food access, which is important to retain at a time when food insecurity and under‐nutrition are primarily problems of access. Poor nutritional outcomes are also related to inadequate health, poor sanitation, and many other factors. In this Research, we focused on the food security, in addition the condition of health, nutrition status and gender dimension and role of policy.

Project Report on Pattern and Treatment of Chronic Kidney Disease In Dhaka

The aim of this document is to summarize the current evidence base on chronic kidney disease. This questionnaire based study was performed in 100 cases of CKD admitted in nephrology department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), Al Baraka Kidney Foundation, Ibne Sina Hospital Dhaka, Lab Aid, National Institute of Kidney Disease & Urology, Popular Hospital, Kidney Hospital & Dialysis Center, Dhaka Renal Center & General Hospital and Public Hospital to evaluate the prevalence of dermatologic problems. Among them most belong to 2nd to 5th stage, 70 are female and rests are male.

Evaluation of Microbiological Quality of Municipal Supplied Water and its Impacts at Mirpur

Microbiological health risks are major concerning issue in all over the world. A study was conducted to evaluate the microbiological quality of municipal supplied water and its impacts at Mirpur, Dhaka. The selected water samples was examined for the concentration of Salmonella, Shigella, Citrobactor, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella, Aeromonas and Vibrio cholerae species in the Mods zone 4,Mirpur in Dhaka. In this regard, 20 water samples were collected from 10 selected pump station and 10 different consuming points that represent the total study area. The study also incorporates the evaluation of impacts due to the consumption of municipal water. A questionnaire survey was also conducted to have the public opinions regarding municipal water issues. 

Thesis on Health and Sanitation Problems of the Slum: A Study of Agargaon Area in Dhaka

This monograph is about health and sanitation problems of the slum of Agargaon area in Dhaka city. In Bangladesh about 20% of the total population lives in urban area. About 40000 people live in slum area in Dhaka city. The slum people depend directly or indirectly on informal sector for their livelihood. The slum people are important part in our society. The slum people serve for our society as a Rickshaw puller, day labor and garment workers. They serve in our society with low income. About 30(83.33%) of the respondents are Rickshaw puller, 3(12.5%) of the respondents are garment workers, 3(12.5%) of the female respondents are home services. Most of the people of slum migrated from rural area. They are unskilled and inexperienced class. Basically, they come to urban area for work and stay in rural area with unemployment. They services in our society but they are deprived from basic rights and their health is very poor for work but they are mainstream worker class in Dhaka city.
