Mass media plays an important role in word politics, economy, culture, literature, politics, science, sports, fashion, movies, education, career, jobs, and so on. Media are mainly the source of amusement and information. Life without the mass media would only be pretty dull but it might even be impossible as we know it. We are all very dependent on mass media. This dependency is both social and personal. According to the topic here we discuss mainly the influence of media. We focus where and how media can influence. And then we discuss a case study of mass media influence. To fulfill the concept of media influence first we should know the definition and history and origin of mass media.
In general, "media" refers to various means of communication. For example, television, radio, and the newspaper are different types of media. The term can also be used as a collective noun for the press or news reporting agencies. In the computer world, "media" is also used as a collective noun, but refers to different types of data storage options. Media is such a process where professional communicators use it to disseminate messages widely, rapidly and continually to arouse intended meanings in large and diverge audiences in attempt to influence them in a variety of ways.
The history of mass media can be traced back to the early days of dramas that were performed in various sculptures. However, the term 'Mass Media' originated with the print media that was also its first example. The first newspaper was printed in China 868 A.D, but due to the high cost of paper and illiteracy amongst people, it didn't prosper.
Europe can boast to be the place of birth of mass media. It was Johannes Gutenberg, who for the first time printed a book in a printing press in 1453.
Gradually, during the period post-Second World War, radio, television and video were introduced. The audio-visual facilities became very popular as they provided information and entertainment. Of late, it is the Internet which has become the latest and most popular of the mass media. Here, information has been generated through various websites and search engines. One can play games, listen to radio while working and chat with friends and relatives, irrespective of location. It also gives information on various topics such as literature, politics, science, sports, fashion, movies, education, career, jobs, etc., similar to other types of mass media.
