Swine Flu-2009 Pandemic (H1N1) 2009 is a novel virus caused by quadruple reasserted variant of Influenza A H1N1 strain. This new virus strain causing influenza was documented for the first time in April, 2009 in Mexico, and rapidly spread through the Americas before extending to Europe, Asia and Oceania, WHO declared the disease a pandemic on 11 June 2009. Then the disease has spread throughout the South East Asia Region (SEARO) with India and Thailand particularly affected. In Bangladesh the first case of Pandemic (H1N1) 2009 Influenza was identified on 18 June 2009. Since then the cases are being suspected/reported from most parts of the country. The World Health Organization has stopped using the term "swine flu" to avoid confusion over the danger posed by pigs. The proper name is 'Pandemic (H1N1) 2009 Influenza'.
