Thesis on The Pattern of Child Labor in Rural Bangladesh: A Case Study in Rampal Upazila under the Bagerhat District

Children are the future of any nation. The main responsibility of the state is to develop this prospective manpower in to the human resource. The children have been emerged as child laborers due to the influence of various factor of the present example society. The child labor is found all over the world including development country like Bangladesh. It is also found in the coastal areas southern part of Bangladesh. In many cases the child labors of the rural areas are being involved in various anti-social behavior and delinquencies, which creates various problems for developing the rural areas and economic development. It is a complex problem whose roots are deeply embedded in cultural, social and economic structures and traditions. Most children who work do not have the privilege of free choice, which has an immense impact on the child’s physical and intellectual development. Child labor as understood by international conventions and national legislation is violation of human rights. Nevertheless, it has been generally perceived more as a social problem off poor developing nations, which are consistently waging wars against poverty, increasing landlessness, booming population, raising unemployment and natural disasters.
Rational of the Study
Mere quantitative data on child laborf1 help to understand the problem in a country but help very little to understand the sociological, psychological and economic forces that play a decisive role in shaping the past, present and future of the child workers, and their families. In order to take an initiative to present regulates and gradually eliminate child labor a clear and holistic I understanding of the problem Is a pre requisite. Without knowing the country wide child labor context we may know about the most visible situation of the child labor. The most important objectives of our present study are to collect comprehensive, reliable and descriptive information regarding the child labor situation in rural Bangladesh. This study will help us to understand and get real information regarding child labor quickly and accurately. There was plenty of scope to observe directly different institutions situated in this country. Irrespective of the nature of involvement with such institutions it gave us a chance to present and discuss the child labor issue in a way that is likely to have an impact towards the problem. Thus the present study is a systematic step to pave the way for social mobilization. For these reasons the present study has much importance.

1.3 Objectives of the Study
The study examines the situation and problem of child workers from a legal perspective and enforcement mechanisms available in addressing this issue and other problems related to it. The adequacy and responsiveness of the legal and enforcement mechanism shall be analyzed on the basis on how much of these measures have been effective In preventing the employment of children for domestic work; and how much protection the country has provided for those who are already engaged in such work. Thus, the study sets the following objectives:
01. To analyze the child labor situation in rural Bangladesh
02. To take an observation of the various organizations for collection of descriptive information on child labor.
03. To collect the comprehensive, reliable and descriptive information about different aspect and dynamic of child labor to understand the child labor problems,
04. To adapt, test and refined the methodology for collecting qualitative Information on child labor situation in rural Bangladesh quickly and accurately.
05. To raise awareness on child labor and motivate the community against it,
06. To identify the taws, policies and programmers in place to address child labor,
07. To examine their responsiveness and effectiveness as a legal framework for protecting child workers, and
08. To make recommendations primarily addressed to the law and policy makers to prevent the further Increase in number of children in works and to protect them form the attending abuse and exploitation of such work.

1.4 Selection of study area
For doing my research, I have selected Rampal upazila of Bagerhat district. This area was selected because this is a costal area located on the south west part of Bangladesh. More over Bagerhat district is beside of Barisal Division. Some upazila of Bagerhat district are already accused of child labor. Through the news paper we knew that a number of child abusing problems as like as child labor and torching. As dweller of Rampal upazila I’m really fell the impact of child labor.

Another reason is that this upazila is well known to me and would be helpful for me to work on this sensitive and touchy issue. I have selected this area.
Finally for better understanding the problems and development of my native land and to identify the perceive cause of child labor and impact.
