Assignment on Primary Data VS Secondary Data

For getting the output, the units which are using under processing are called data. In sneral there are two types of data

a) Primary Data
b) Secondary Data
a) Primary Data :
The primary data are those which are collected afresh and for the first time and thus happen to be original in character primary data are measurements observed and recorded of an original study. When the data required for a particular study can be found neighter in the internal records at the enteries neither in the internal records at the enterprise nor in the published surces, it may become necessary to collect original data, to conduct first hand investigator. The work of collecting original data is usually limited by time, money and manpower available for the study.

Advantage at primary data :

Ø It ensures more accuracy
Ø It represents current information
Ø According to research problem, data can be collected, thus these data are more dependable
Ø Source at data can easily be identified.
Disadvantage of primary data
Ø It takes time
Ø Collection cost is high
Ø Informants may confure researcher
Ø Collection process is very involved
Ø Sometimes it becomes risky for researcher.
Ø Reaction can be possible from the source of data.

Secondary Data : The secondary data are these which have already been collected by someone else and which have already been passed through the statistical process. These data can be located quickly and inexpensively.

Advantage of second Data :

Secondary data can help researcher Secondary data can help researcher to
Ø I dentify the problem
Ø Define the problem better
Ø Develop an approach to the problem
Ø Formulate an appropiate research design
Answer certain research questions and test some hypotheses
Ø Interpret primary data more insightfully

Disadvantages of secondary data :

Because secondary data have been collected for purposes other than the problem at hand, their usetuleness to the current problem may be limited in several important ways, including relevance and accuracy. The objectives, nature and methods used to collect the secondary data may not be appropiate to the present situation. also secondary data may be lacking in accuracy or they may not be completely current or dependable.

Collection of Primary Data :

The primary data are collected during the course of doing experiments in an experimental research but in case we do research of the descriptive type and perform serveys, whether sample surveys orcensus surveys, there we can obtain primary data either through observation or through direct communication with respondents in one form or another or through personal interview. There are several methods of collecting primary data, particularly in surveys and descriptive researcher which are described below:
Participant Observation : Participant observation is not a method for gathering just qualitative data. It is also a strategy that facilitates data collection in the field all kinds of data, both qualitative and quantitative.
